Ken Mitchell

He studied at Sheffield University and hold an honours degree (BA Hons) in music. He was also awarded a distinction level Diploma in Music (ATCL) from Trinity College London. He has performed with & directed some of the world’s leading bands & ensembles, including Wishbone Ash, Dr Feelgood, Steve Gibbons Band the Black Dyke and YBS Brass Bands and others.
He was Musical Director for the Gaiety Theatre productions of Rent, Grand Hotel, Hairspray & Shrek (pro cast) and played Guitar & Brass in the pit orchestra for 25+ shows. He is also a singer guitarist, leader of Baron Otto’s Blaskapelle Oompah Band and the Musical Director of the Douglas Town Band.
He is an experienced teacher, having taught for over 30 years . He was guitar and brass teacher for King William’s College and the Buchan School, prior to starting up my own private teaching practice. A number of my students have gained places at top UK Conservatoires, including the Royal Northern College of Music, The Royal College of Music, Brighton Institute of Modern Music (BIMM) and Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA) .
His most famous past guitar student is Damien Lewis (of Homeland; Band of Brothers fame) who Hetutored for his role for the film Chromophobia.
He was tutor/manager for “PNM Music Academy, Isle of Man” and am currently Guitar Tutor for Rock Project IOM and also teach at UCM.
